@EllisAshbrook has a huge basement for shows & practice + talks ideal producers collabos!

    1) Introduce yourself
    We are JB, JG, AM and NL i.e. Ellis Ashbrook.
    2) How did you come up with your stage name?
    We stumbled upon it because it is AM’s “pornstar” name (Ellis was a guinea pig, Ashbrook was the name of the street he grew up on) but it stuck because Ellis Ashbrook is virtually free of any connotations and that allows us to shape the name/our image into whatever we want it to be. Plus, the name rolls off the tongue quite nicely once you get used to saying it.
    3) What sets you apart from other aspiring artists?
    We have all be living together in New York the last 4 years. The home of Ellis Ashbrook has a huge basement for shows and practice, many comfortable couches, a plethora of mattresses, wine and pillows, two kitchen sinks, two bathrooms and a backyard. Viva Bed-Stuy!
    4) What single or project are you currently pushing?
    Our third full-length Meridia, available on double vinyl, cd, and iTunes.
    5) What is the philosophy by which you live by?
    Surrender to the now; seek zen;
    The Universe will take care of you if you believe in it and take care of the people and the environment around you;
    the truth of cause and effect is often expressed through sound and vibration; space is the place; revolution is evolution;
    6) Who does most of the songwriting?
    We all write, we alright.
    7) What is your opinion of the current state of the music industry?
    We just released our third album on vinyl and we are grateful for that medium’s resurgence and what it means for people’s listening appreciation. There are always paradigm shifts, all we can do is make the music we love and invite everyone in the world to join in the experience and participate in their own way. We are also fortunate enough to live in a time where at any moment, anyone in the world with internet access can discover our music. Studio recordings, entire live shows streamed instantly, music videos, its incredible!
    8.) If you could change one thing about the music industry what would it be and why?
    There is something for everybody out there, there is so much talent. The split between popular and independent industries has always been the same. All marketing has always survived on image as a sellable commodity, we think the music comes first but that is the musician’s job.
    9) Are there any singers/ bands that you would like to collaborate with in the future?
    Beck, Wilco, Brian Eno, Thom Yorke/Radiohead, Flying Lotus, Bjork, Adrian Belew, David Bowie, Trent Reznor, David Byrne, Prince.
    10) What producer would you like to collaborate with in the future?
    Brian Eno, George Martin, Alan Moulder, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Brian Wilson, Beck, Bill Laswell, Trey Anastasio, Dave Friedman, Eddie Kramer, John Zorn, Quincy Jones, Sonic Boom, Nigel Goodrich.
    11) What Is your favorite movie and favorite book?
    The answer to both of those questions is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream.
    12) What is your favorite part of your live show? How has It evolved?
    The ever-changing art of listening is always a challenge. It allows us to re-think our sound, communicate through vibrations, and ultimately surrender to what feels right. But “what feels right” can change over time and isn’t always unanimous, so it becomes a cyclical process… one that includes but is not limited to on-going assessments, judgment calls, and endless compromises.
    13) What is your Lp like?
    A cool shower on a hot day, the last bite of an ice cream cone, a cool glass of water in the middle of the desert, it’s refreshingly water themed.
    14) Any final words for the people.
    Sensation, respect, vibration, wonder.
