[Interview]: Picking the Brain: @DavidEBeats via @brainofbmw!

Courtney Lynn was able to catch up with rising star and rap rock sensation David E Beats just long enough to see what was on his mind. Check out what happened when she picked his brain…….

    [CL]
In you’re bio I see that there was a comparison of you to the late great Jimi Hendrix who
was more of the Rock genre and Buddy Guy who was of the Blues genre. Would you
consider yourself as a guitarist a mixture of both?
    [D.E Beats]
I’d say a mix of both. I listen to both artists and draw alot of inspiration from both!
    [CL]
At what age did you teach yourself to play the guitar and why the guitar?
    [D.E Beats]
Around age 19. Taught myself when I first moved to NYC because I was bored and I had nothing to do!
    [CL]
I know your goal is to bring rock and hip hop together, which personally I think is a great
idea. But when you said rock music…you’re really bringing heavy rock, none of this pop
water down type of rock. So do you ever notice if some people are shocked or surprised
when they first hear your music?
    [D.E Beats]
Yes, they are, but I’ve noticed that people love it once they hear it. Before they hear it, they arent too sure what to expect, but afterwards I can always make the sale.
    [CL]
In a radio interview I caught, you speak on how the first rap album you heard was Jay-
Z “The Blue Print” album, I will have to admit I had the “Huh” face Lol. So now that
your rap-cherry has been popped what are some of your favorite rap artist other then Jay-
    Z?
    [D.E Beats]
I’m really into Rakim, Nas, Kanye, Lupe, Common, a bunch of guys. I like anyone that sounds dope really.
    [CL]
How much does rap/hip hop influence you when making your own music?
    [D.E Beats]
Alot, I’m always working on a way to mix the rap and rock sounds better, I love the way a hip hop song is syncopated but I also love the fullness of rock.
    [CL]
On that same video you speak about your parents had a weird chooses in music. Your
step-dad was a fan of Metallica and other rock groups such as Soundgarden, and that your
mother is a classically trained singer and pianist, so I’m pretty sure growing up you were
surrounded by tons of great music. With that being said, what were some of your favorite
    artist growing up?
    [D.E Beats]
Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Boys To Men, alot of the old school Rnb plus alot of heavy metal.
    [CL]
How did growing up in such a diverse setting musically affect you? Do those same
    affects drive you musically?
    [D.E Beats]
Yes, I remember alot of the sounds of old RnB songs as well as the fullness of rock songs when I’m making new tracks.
    [CL]
After your success with your music videos for “Maybe Tomorrow” and “Over Here” will
there be any new music videos coming out soon?
    [D.E Beats]
We just dropped the #Wasup! music video not too long ago.

    [CL]
When can we expect new music from David E. Beats?
    [D.E Beats]
More great music, plus more great live shows!!!
    [CL]
Who is David E. Beats listening to right now…new or old?
    [D.E Beats]
The new Lupe album is really good, even though its maddd commercial. I’m also listening to Kings Of Leon as well as Drake and Kanye.
    [CL]
When it’s all said and done, what do you want your legacy to be…when it comes to your
music what do you hope is said?
    [D.E Beats]
I’m just looking to have people who love my songs and I really hope every song I create means something to someone.
    [CL]
Now that you are doing music in the rock and rap genre, do you have any plans on
working on any other genres of music?
    [D.E Beats]
    As of now, no.
    [CL]
So you produce, you write, you play your own instrument and you rap…what don’t you
do? Lol but really what is David E. Beats not?
    [D.E Beats]
Ummm,. hard question! I do what I need to do to get my situation off the ground! I’ve found I can only depend on myself so I learn to do everything I need to do!
    [CL]
What can we expect from you in the future? Say the rest of 2011? And beyond this year?
    [D.E Beats]
More songs, a new album, maybe a mixtape, and alot more shows!
    [CL]
Anything you want to say to your fans?
    [D.E Beats]
